Case Study – Crafty Chameleon

This was an existing building in a local shopping center in Ellisville, MO located at Clayton Road and Clarkson Road. This space used to be a Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant. Youtopia Designs was responsible for taking half of the building and turning it into a craft beer bar. Prior to the design work there were partitions and walls that needed to be taken down, a new color scheme was needed along with new lighting, etc. We were met with the challenge of creating a craft beer bar that appealed to people of all ages and both genders.

St. Louis Kitchen Remodeling and Design

There are few rooms in a home where the proper design can have as dramatic effect as it can in your kitchen.  The problem being is that with the abundance of design options in kitchens they tend to be harder than other rooms to get the design right. Having us by your side will ensure that you get your remodeling or new kitchen design spot on.

Things to Consider when Choosing a Design for your Kitchen

We mentioned that you have a lot of choices in the areas that you will design your kitchen around. Here are some of the more important aspects when designing a kitchen to take into account:

Tile

The tile you select for your kitchen is important because it will set the tone for the rest of the kitchen so choose it carefully. This is a difficult selection because of all the different styles and choices. Kitchen size is a big factor in the selection process because light tiles can make a kitchen look bigger and vice versa.

Cabinets

Cabinets do a lot more for your kitchen than just store food and other things; if done right they can add a lot of style to it also. There are no longer limited to just being made of wood either. Even cabinet doors offer a variety of styles and choices such as those made predominately of glass. As far as storage goes you have to determine the space needed to store your pots, pans, utensils and food. There is no general rule here and both small and large kitchen cabinets will work in any size kitchen. If you like a whole lot of storage consider such things as floor to ceiling cabinets.

Counters and Tables

To be practical when designing a kitchen you need to always include a sturdy counter, island or tabletop. Large kitchens may have several different counters, whereas smaller kitchens sometimes benefit from using islands. A good rule of thumb here is to not base your choice solely on looks. Counters made of granite, steel or ceramic not only look good but can handle the heavy daily wear that all kitchens get too.

Stoves and Cooking Stations

Little things such as if your stove is a stand-alone or built in model make a big difference in kitchen design also. Built in stoves will need to be decorated around, whereas stand-alone units need to go where they fit, are safe and easily accessed.

Floors

Flooring is a great way to either add or take away depth from a room; this is done by either matching the flooring in your kitchen to the walls or by installing flooring that gives it a contrasting look. The current popular choice for kitchen flooring is ceramic floors but there is nothing that says you can’t go with laminates or wood. Flooring texture should also play a role in your selection.

Accessories

Every kitchen needs that finishing touch to make it look great. Your faucets, light fixtures sinks and other accessories must always be complimentary to the kitchen design. When you are choosing accessories look for ones that can do such things as round out a look, accent another feature or add a little color.

How to Find Kitchen Decorating Ideas

There are a lot of great ways to get new design ideas for your kitchen and the best place to start is the internet. It is full of useful information and photos that will help you start to come up with a design that really appeals to you. Trade magazines, trips to your local home improvement store and checking out open houses for new homes are other great ways to come up with new design ideas too. This is an important first step because when you meet with us we can fine tune your design so it will turn into your dream kitchen exactly as you had hoped.

St. Louis Bathroom Design and Remodeling

Many people tend to overlook bathrooms when it comes to making decorating changes in their homes but this is a mistake. Bathrooms are only slightly behind kitchens in the amount of creativity you can put into them. Just because they are usually not large rooms does not mean they cannot help the overall looks of your home; properly designed bathrooms can really compliment the rest of your house. If you enlist our help with the design of your bathrooms we assure you that together we can make them rooms that look great and really stand out.

The Different Bathroom Design Styles

Here are some of the different styles you can choose to decorate your bathroom in:

Classic - These are usually done in light shades and feature clean crisp lines. Focus is on a fresh look.

Vintage - A blast from the past is the theme here. They can also be accented with old photos and décor. Old fashioned style bathtubs work great here too.

Modern - A minimalist style that likes to flood the area with light from many different fixtures. White paired with neutral tones dominates here.

Rustic - This style tends to bring in elements of the outdoors. Handmade crafts and wooden décor are often present here.

Eclectic - Unique patterned wallpaper, vivid colored accessories and shades that block colors are common here. It lends itself to a bold and playful look.

Luxury - This is more commonly done in large bathrooms that someone wants to closer resemble a living room or bedroom. This style usually uses a large bathtub as the center piece and often times such things as tables, chairs and fancy lighting are added into the mix.

Honestly, there are a limitless number of designs for bathrooms because of all the different things you can do with them. By choosing a theme it helps to narrow your choices into a more manageable amount of them.

Fine Tuning a Bathroom Design

Once you have an idea for your design you next need to get technical. Accurate measurements must be taken of the floor area and of the height of the floor to the window sill. This will give you an idea of the amount of space you have to work with without making your bathroom appear cluttered. Next you need to map a layout of your new design. This is an area that we can really help you with. We see the problems that our customers run into with layouts all the time and know how to correct them and make their design work. We can even do a 3D rendering of the bathroom design if requested.

Here Are Some Other Important Things to Consider When Designing Bathrooms

Color Coordination Color is very important to smaller rooms such as bathrooms. A color can either make a bathroom loom larger or appear smaller; that is why lighter shades are often chosen for smaller bathrooms. Large bathrooms tend to have bolder and darker colors to inject a sensation of warmth into the room. Use your bathroom accessories to accent your look by using such things as bolder colored accessories. Let There Be Light - It is also important to factor lighting into the design of your bathroom. It is best to not overfill your bathroom with light fixtures but instead balance the amount of light fixtures and natural light in the room. Make sure the light fixtures you purchase accentuate your chosen design style too.

Finding Bathroom Inspiration

The internet, magazines, showrooms and open houses are excellent ways to stimulate your thinking to help you come up with a bathroom design that suits your individual tastes. Keep a careful eye on matching the décor of your bathroom with your chosen theme. A bathroom is no different than any other room in your house. By having a trained interior decorating specialist by your side it will make the process go smoothly and it will also help guide you to the exact look that you were looking for in your bathrooms.

That is exactly what we can do for you with an accurate 3D rendering of your building project. It sure is a whole lot easier to make adjustments to suit your taste before the construction begins than it is to change something that is under construction. So if you are getting ready to do some interior decorating, renovations or new construction; please give us a call to see what our expert interior decorating services can do for you. We would love to add you to our very long list of highly satisfied clients.

Our Design Process

Proper interior design includes much more than just coming up with great ideas; a big part of the task is being able to take those ideas and see them through to successful finished project. That is why we take so much time to follow a set step by step design process. This is a time tested recipe for success that not only achieves its goal of creating a great looking designed space but it also assures the project will be within the budget given and completed on time.

Here are the 4 main steps to our design Process:

Step 1:  The Initial Consultation  We would like to meet with you in your home or place of business to see the area that needs to be decorated and to also get a very good grasp of your design vision for that area. Our expert interior designers will be there so you can bounce ideas off of them and narrow down some of your style choices. At that time we will also determine the scope of the project, such as will it be the simple decorating of a room or a much larger scale project such as building a home from scratch. At this time we can also get a good feel for such things as your timeline and budget. All of this will enable us to give you a very accurate estimate for the entire project.

Step 2:  Floor Plan and Design Mock Ups It is important to next do a floor plan and design mock up. This is usually done by sketch and it is a great way to exchange ideas and views to determine the design concept we will use. Once this is done the project needs to be budgeted and finishes need to be selected also.

Step 3:  Selections and Renderings Here the project really begins to take shape. You can choose to be 100% immersed in the design project alongside us or you can let us handle the selections and renderings and then present those to you for approval. Even the smallest details such as flooring and lighting will be presented here and we will make sure all the selections fit into the budget. We also don’t believe in making presentations using just “mood boards” as many design companies do; we will make a 3D rendering of the project so you can get a first-hand grasp of what the project will look like. It’s a great way to see what the newly designed space will look like before making any expenditures on furniture or finishes.

Step 4:  Design Approval and Implementation Once you have approved the design based on the detailed 3D rendering, then we will take over from there as the project managers. We will handle the ordering of all the materials and supplies for the project, and also directly oversee any contractors that are working on it with us.
